Information for Retirees
The state's Division of Retirement offers a comprehensive web page for retirees.
We recommend that you contact the University Retirement office one to two months prior to retirement to complete all necessary paperwork.
DROP
The Deferred Retirement Option Program allows participants to accumulate their retirement benefits while continuing to work (for a maximum of 5 years). If you are a member of the Florida Pension Plan, and wish to participate in this program, you will need to contact our office 1-2 months before your normal retirement date* to complete the necessary documents. Normal retirement date
*Regular class: age 62 and vested (6 years) or 30 years of creditable service.
*Special Risk class: age 55 and vested (6 years) or 25 years of creditable service
Hired on or after July 1, 2011
*Regular class: age 65 and vested (8 years) or 33 years of creditable service
*Special Risk class: age 60 and vested (8 years) or 30 years of creditable service
Leave Cash Out
Upon retiring, you are eligible for a cash out of your accumulated annual leave, which is paid in accordance with UF’s leave administration policy. Your department will initiate the transaction following your retirement date. Payments of $2,000 or more will be eligible for the Retirement Special Pay Plan, administered by BENCOR Administrative Services.

Phased Retirement Program
The Phased Retirement Program allows retired faculty to participate in the University’s Phased Retirement Program with the following exceptions:
- Faculty members who have received notice of non-reappointment, layoff, or termination.
- Faculty members who have participated in the State’s Deferred Retirement Option Program (DROP).
- Developmental Research School faculty.

Gator 1 card
As a UF retiree, you have an opportunity to purchase a permanent Gator 1 card that will allow you to have access to the following UF facilities:
· Libraries
· Gymnasium
· Swimming pools
· Outdoor athletic courts
· Reitz Union
You will also be able to:
· Join the Living Well Employee Wellness Program
· Secure admission to functions restricted to UF personnel
· Purchase football tickets based upon your established seating priority
The retiree Gator 1 card will allow free access to the RTS Transportation System.
To obtain a permanent Gator 1 card, visit the ID Card Services Office located at the UF Bookstore and Welcome Center, Room G071. The cost is $15, payable by cash, check, or ATM Honor card. Please bring your picture ID. Call (352) 392-8343 for more information.
Retired Faculty of the University of Florida
A great way for faculty and administrators to transition into retirement and remain intellectually engaged is to join the Retired Faculty of the University of Florida (RFUF). If you are a retired faculty member or administrator (Assistant Director or higher in a dept., center, etc.), then you’re eligible to participate in this friendly, active organization!
