Upcoming legislative changes to affect state-sponsored benefits programs

Each year, the Florida Legislature determines benefit costs and plan designs for the State Group Insurance Program under the General Appropriations Act, also known as the state budget. This year, several changes were approved that will affect UF’s state-sponsored plans.


UF will be a tobacco-free campus starting July
Effective July 1, the use of cigarettes or other tobacco products on the UF campus, including in parking lots and vehicles, will not be permitted.

UF offers free smoking cessation program to faculty, staff, and spouses

In anticipation of campus going tobacco-free July 1, the University’s Employee Assistance Program, in partnership with the Area Health Education Centers, is continuing to offer a FREE smoking cessation program to UF employees. 

Use your 2009-10 personal days by July 8

If you have unused USPS personal holidays or TEAMS/faculty personal leave days, now is the time to use them. Any unused USPS personal holidays or TEAMS/faculty personal leave days not used by the end of the fiscal year will expire.

Immigration Compliance Services for Foreign National Employees moves to HRS June 11

The Office of Human Resource Services is pleased to announce that Immigration Compliance Services will move to HRS this month.

Experiencing a work or life-event status change?
UF employees experiencing a “qualifying status change” should contact University Benefits and Retirement as soon as possible to ensure their benefits are properly adjusted for the remainder of the plan year.

New UF Privacy Office document provides information about how to secure data
The university’s privacy office has released a document outlining risks posed from sensitive data stored on UF copiers, scanners, printers, and fax machines—and what to do to secure your department’s office equipment.

Alternate Work Location agreement renewals due by July 1
The university permits employees to work at an alternate work site, provided the working arrangement benefits both the organization and the employee.

Employee Education Program accepting applications for summer semesters
The Employee Education Program (EEP) is a popular benefit available to eligible UF faculty and staff. The program provides tuition assistance for up to six credit hours of eligible college-level courses per semester.

 



Governor Crist vetoes bill proposed to cut DROP
interest earnings

House Bill 5607, which reduced the Deferred Retirement Option Program (DROP) accrual rate from 6.5% to 3.0%, has been vetoed by Florida Governor, Charlie Crist.

Enterprise Reporting will be impacted by the myUFL Financial Systems Upgrade that will “go live” in spring 2011. 

FRS members should verify their home mailing address
Each year the Division of Retirement (DOR) sends FRS pension plan participants individualized Member Annual Statements that include important information about service credit, average final compensation, and pension benefit projections.
