UF takes copyright violations seriously

The University of Florida IT Security Team wants to raise your awareness about copyright violations. Sharing copyrighted material, including music, movies, software and some intellectual property, without authorization is illegal. It is a violation of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) of 1998 and other state and federal laws. UF policies support legislation by prohibiting copyright violations. In addition to legal penalties, faculty, staff, and students who violate copyright law may face UF disciplinary action up to and including dismissal. With your help, we hope to prevent copyright violations at UF.

Be prepared: Register your emergency contact information with the DMV

The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles now offers online registration of emergency contact information.

If you are ever injured in an accident and unable to speak, an officer can input your driver's license number into a computer. If you have registered, your emergency contact information will be

Services available for university faculty and staff impacted by layoffs

The Office of Human Resource Services regrets that the current budget circumstances have resulted in a number of employee layoffs at the University of Florida. This is a difficult time for individuals directly impacted by the layoffs. We also understand that the impact is felt by concerned colleagues and by the campus community at large. Our office is committed to providing helpful service during this time. A web site has been created with critical information related to the decisions that have been made at the university, how the layoff process works, and the available services for impacted employees. Please do not hesitate to contact us with questions or concerns.

Use your 2007-08 personal days by July 10!

If you have unused personal leave days or personal holidays, now is the time to use them. Any unused USPS personal holidays or TEAMS/faculty personal leave days not used by the end of the fiscal year will expire.

Eligible employees have until the end of the pay period in which June 30 (the end of the fiscal year) occurs–-meaning July 10, 2008, to use unused personal holidays (if USPS) or personal leave days (if TEAMS or eligible faculty).

USPS personal holidays for the 2008-09 fiscal year will be awarded and reflected on balances beginning July 14, 2008. Please note that even though the USPS personal holiday will be in effect on July 14, employees will not be able to report such usage until after July 28, 2008.  Personal leave days for 2008-09 for TEAMS and eligible faculty will be awarded in December 2008.

Questions? Please contact Leave Administration at central-leave@ufl.edu.

Superior Accomplishment Awards ceremony honors outstanding UF staff and faculty

More than 350 employees gathered at the J. Wayne Reitz Student Union’s Grand Ballroom on April 22 for the 2008 Superior Accomplishment Awards ceremony. The annual program recognizes staff and faculty members who contribute outstanding and meritorious service, efficiency and/or economy to the quality of life for students and employees. Recognition by one’s peers is the highest point of achievement.

The Superior Accomplishment Awards are presented each spring semester for the period covering the previous academic year—Aug. 1, 2006 to July 31, 2007. Awards are given in the following six categories, first at the divisional level and then at the university level: Clerical/Office Support, Support Services, Scientific/Technical, Administrative/Supervisory, Administrative/Professional, and Academic Personnel.

Division-level award recipients receive cash awards of $200 each, then are considered for university-level awards, which offer eight $1,000 and six $2,000 cash awards.

The following individuals received awards at the university-level, the Superior Accomplishment Awards’ highest honors, and were awarded a $2,000 check, a commemorative plaque, and an invitation to the president’s box during an upcoming home football game:
