UF takes copyright violations seriously

The University of Florida IT Security Team wants to raise your awareness about copyright violations. Sharing copyrighted material, including music, movies, software and some intellectual property, without authorization is illegal. It is a violation of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) of 1998 and other state and federal laws. UF policies support legislation by prohibiting copyright violations. In addition to legal penalties, faculty, staff, and students who violate copyright law may face UF disciplinary action up to and including dismissal. With your help, we hope to prevent copyright violations at UF.

For more information, see http://copyright.gov and the Office of Information Technology's Acceptable Use web page.

Be prepared: Register your emergency contact information with the DMV

The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles now offers online registration of emergency contact information.

If you are ever injured in an accident and unable to speak, an officer can input your driver's license number into a computer. If you have registered, your emergency contact information will be
immediately accessible.

Accessing this information at an accident site will help save time if you are seriously injured because it provices a contact who can make decisions about your care. If you live by yourself, have teenagers that drive, or have elderly parents or relatives who are still driving, this could be a life-saving program.

The process is quick and easy. Registrants may enter two emergency contacts. Only those with a Florida driver's license or a Florida I.D. card can register.

Services available for university faculty and staff impacted by layoffs

The Office of Human Resource Services regrets that the current budget circumstances have resulted in a number of employee layoffs at the University of Florida. This is a difficult time for individuals directly impacted by the layoffs. We also understand that the impact is felt by concerned colleagues and by the campus community at large. Our office is committed to providing helpful service during this time. A web site has been created with critical information related to the decisions that have been made at the university, how the layoff process works, and the available services for impacted employees. Please do not hesitate to contact us with questions or concerns.

Use your 2007-08 personal days by July 10!

If you have unused personal leave days or personal holidays, now is the time to use them. Any unused USPS personal holidays or TEAMS/faculty personal leave days not used by the end of the fiscal year will expire.

Eligible employees have until the end of the pay period in which June 30 (the end of the fiscal year) occurs–-meaning July 10, 2008, to use unused personal holidays (if USPS) or personal leave days (if TEAMS or eligible faculty).

USPS personal holidays for the 2008-09 fiscal year will be awarded and reflected on balances beginning July 14, 2008. Please note that even though the USPS personal holiday will be in effect on July 14, employees will not be able to report such usage until after July 28, 2008.  Personal leave days for 2008-09 for TEAMS and eligible faculty will be awarded in December 2008.

Questions? Please contact Leave Administration at central-leave@ufl.edu.

Employees must report 2007-08 compensatory leave use by May 25

All non-exempt employees and exempt USPS employees may use overtime and special compensatory leave through the end of the fiscal year (June 30), but it must be entered into the system by 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 25.

If you need to use overtime or special compensatory leave before June 30, the leave should be entered accurately for the future date on which you will be absent from work using the Weekly Elapsed Screen in the myUFL system.

To do so, enter a future “Week Beginning Date,” click “Refresh Date,” then enter the number of compensatory leave hours (along with the proper time-reporting code; see below) on the anticipated, or projected, date of use. Regardless of the date on which the compensatory leave use will occur through the end of the fiscal year, it must be entered by 5 p.m. on May 25.

After logging in to myUFL, navigate to My Self Service > Time Reporting > Time Reporting Home > Report Weekly Elapsed Time.

Non-exempt employees:

  • Begin with a new blank line
  • Input the compensatory leave hours to be used and then select the appropriate leave type in the “Time Reporting Code” menu (“OCT” for overtime compensatory leave use and “SCU” for special compensatory leave use)
  • Click the “Save” button to save work
  • Review the confirmation screen and click “OK”

Exempt USPS employees:

  • At the default schedule, change the blank “Time Reporting Code” (TRC) field to the "regular" TRC
  • Adjust the hours on that line to reflect the actual hours worked
  • Click on “Add a New Line” to input your compensatory leave to be used (“SCU” for special compensatory leave use)
  • Click the “Save” button to save work
  • Review the confirmation screen and click “OK”

Again, while the compensatory leave use should be entered in the system with the accurate date of use, it must be physically entered by 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 25, or it will be cashed out automatically during the pay period ending May 29.

Questions? Please contact Leave Administration at 392-2477 or Payroll Services at 392-1231.
