Employer's costs for grant/contract funded positions for Fiscal Year 2008-2009 now online

Human Resource Services has prepared a list of employer costs for benefits and retirement as well as federal and state mandated charges that are incurred with all payroll activities. Questions? Contact Human Resource Services at 392-2477.

Calculation change for biweekly payroll distribution charges

Effective with the July 11-24 pay period, current and retroactive payroll distributions will be calculated on a 10-day calendar as opposed to the current 14-day calendar.

This change will be fairly transparent to the end users. A 10-day calendar will eliminate the need for departments to do complex calculations to retroactively charge the correct amount. Using ten workdays in a pay period is also consistent with the myUFL system configuration.

Reminder: Changes to appointment and termination process for student assistants

As mentioned in the March InfoGatordepartments are no longer required to submit copies of hire paperwork if a student assistant or OPS employee has been employed at UF in any capacity during the last 12 months. Recruitment and Staffing and Student Employment worked together to change these requirements in an effort to streamline the hiring process of student assistants and OPS.

Departments should enter the hire ePAF, if the employee is coming to a new department, or a Job Change ePAF if the employee is currently working in that department. It is helpful to include comments on the ePAF to communicate the change that is being made.

Personal leave days update

If you have unused personal leave days or personal holidays, now is the time to use them. Any unused USPS personal holidays or TEAMS/faculty personal leave days not used by the end of the fiscal year will expire.

Eligible employees have until the end of the pay period in which June 30 (the end of the fiscal year) occurs–-meaning July 10, 2008, to use unused personal holidays (if USPS) or personal leave days (if TEAMS or eligible faculty).

You can determine whether you have personal leave time to be used by following this navigation: My Self Service>Payroll and Compensation (Home)>View Leave History. Select the most recent pay period end date by clicking on it in the drop-down box. USPS employees should look for an ending balance for USPS Hol to determine if they have the 2007-08 personal holiday available to them. TEAMS employees and faculty should look for TMSFacPer and check the ending balance. If there’s a balance, it should be used by July 10.

Services available for university faculty and staff impacted by layoffs

The Office of Human Resource Services regrets that the current budget circumstances have resulted in a number of employee layoffs at the University of Florida. This is a difficult time for individuals directly impacted by the layoffs. We also understand that the impact is felt by concerned colleagues and by the campus community at large. Our office is committed to providing helpful service during this time. A web site has been created with critical information related to the decisions that have been made at the university, how the layoff process works, and the available services for impacted employees. The President's web site also offers additional information about budget decisions. Please do not hesitate to contact us with questions or concerns.

  • Employees who are separating from the university and receiving sick or vacation leave payments of $2,000 or more will be automatically enrolled in the Special Pay Plan. For more information, please visit the Special Pay Plan section of HRS’ web site.
  • Members of the Florida Pension Plan need to remember that the eligibility window for DROP begins the first day of the month they reach their normal retirement date based on age (62 for regular class membership, 57 for Special Risk)  OR in the month following the month they reach their normal retirement date based upon their years of service (30 years for regular class, 25 for Special Risk), whichever comes first.

The eligibility window ends 12 months after they reach their normal retirement date. Please review the DROP Brochure or visit the Retirement section of the HRS web site for more information. If you have an employee with a normal retirement date that will occur within the next three months and they participate in the Pension Plan, please have them call the Retirement office at 392-2477 to discuss their options.
