Special Pay Increases
Special Pay Increases (SPIs) provide an increase to the employee's salary in her or his current position and classification.
SPIs can be requested for the following three circumstances:
- increased job responsibility
- confirmed counter offers
- market equity
Increased job responsibilities - when additional duties or responsibilities have been assigned to the position. If the increase is justified based on increased responsibilities, you will need to update the position description in PeopleSoft’s Position Management process.
Counter offers - offers may be actual or anticipated by the department.
Market equity – increases to base pay driven by either the external market value of a job or by comparing several factors including knowledge, skill, experience, relevant training and performance to those of their peers.
Departments will need to complete the Special Pay Increase form. An explanation or justification for the request along with approval from the respective vice president of each budgetary unit is required. Departments will also need to complete a Change Job ePAF form.
NOTE: the effective date for SPIs shall be the date the Vice President for Human Resource Services approves the special pay action.
