Job Summary
Positions in this classification perform highly skilled work in one or more IT areas not limited to the following: network, systems, support, applications, business, research, and data. Positions involving these types of work have varied working titles. The working title will be chosen by the hiring authority and included in the position description and job postings.
Positions in this classification perform work that is predominately intellectual and varied in character, involving design and extensive problem solving that require the analytical application of relevant theory. This work requires originality and creativity in addition to discretion, judgment, and decision-making. The output produced or result accomplished cannot be standardized in relation to a given period of time. The position devotes less than 20% of its hours worked to activities other than those described above.
Supervisory Duties
May supervise and/or direct the work of project teams. The employee may also have managerial and administrative responsibilities beyond functional supervision.
Level of Supervision Received
Receives limited direction on projects and priorities and interfaces with supervisor as needed but at least biweekly. The employee selects the order and the priority of duties to be completed. Non-recurring work assignments may be accompanied by guidance regarding criteria to be used in selecting an alternative methodology/approach.
Creativity
Requires creativity and originality in addition to the ability to improvise and improve existing systems. May be required to create something entirely new and different from prior art in several disciplines.
Budgetary Responsibility
May provide input on budget development process, contribute to budget management, and exercise limited budget authority.
Impact on Organizational Strategy
Responsible for developing and implementing strategic recommendations for a major functional unit.
Leadership Ability/Responsibility
Responsibility for decisions and final results, often affecting a functional area or several organizational units of the organization.

Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma and four years of any combination of relevant experience, education and/or certification. The level of expertise and skill required to qualify for a position in this classification is generally attained through combinations of education and experience in the field. While such employees commonly have a bachelor's or higher degree, no particular academic degree is required.
