General Information
Open Enrollment began October 8, 2012, and ends November 2, 2012, at 6 p.m. EST. While employees currently covered by the state-sponsored plans will continue to have those options available and may retain their present coverage with the state, UF is pleased to introduce two new benefit programs during Open Enrollment (OE) this year: GatorCare Health and UFSelect voluntary plans. Based on an employee’s job classification, certain benefit programs will be available to include:
- State-sponsored plans: State Health plans, Basic & Optional Life & AD&D, Disability, Supplemental , Dental, Vision, Medical & Dependent Reimbursement Accounts, Cancer/Intensive Care, Hospital, Accident & Short Term Disability.
(Eligible groups: Academic and Clinical Faculty (non-OPS), TEAMS and USPS) - NEW! UFSelect (UF-sponsored plans): Dental, Vision, Critical Illness, Term Life & AD&D, Disability, LifeEvents®, Supplemental Hospital, Accident, Pet and Legal insurance, as well as Retail Benefits program.
(Eligible groups: Academic and Clinical Faculty (non-OPS), TEAMS, USPS, Postdocs/Postdoc Fellows, and Housestaff/Residents) - NEW! GatorCare Health Plan: 2 PPO plan options.
(Eligible groups: Any Academic Faculty (non-OPS), TEAMS or USPS employee currently enrolled in the UF Domestic Partner with AvMed will transition into GatorCare on January 1, 2013. Clinical Faculty & Housestaff/Residents, Postdocs/Postdoc Fellows, and Grad Assistants on appointments/Predoc Fellows will transition onto GatorCare later in spring 2013.)

How to Enroll or Make Changes during Open Enrollment
State-Sponsored Benefits
- Go online to make changes via the People First website.
- Available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Using the People First website
Making elections online is easy, the most current information is available with night and weekend access to review all your insurance options. Online elections mean no phone hold time or forms to complete and send. You also receive instant confirmation online which you should print to retain as documentation of your OE transaction. To ensure accuracy of your information, People First has added an address and dependent validation process which is promoted when you log onto the system. You must complete both steps before proceeding with any OE transactions. Although you can also complete transactions by calling the People First Center at (866) 663-4735 or fill in enrollment forms to send to the Service Center, you may encounter longer phone holding times or busy fax lines which could delay the process in making your open enrollment changes.
Passwords
If you haven’t logged into People First in the last 90 days, you should update your password online before Open Enrollment begins. Once Open Enrollment rolls around, you will be able to log in and make your pretax insurance elections. If your account is locked or you forgot your password, use the Forgot Your Password? Link on the People First web site (or visit peoplefirst.myflorida.com) to reset your password and log in.
UFSelect Voluntary Benefits
UFSelect plans are voluntary post-tax benefits that are sponsored by the university and, therefore will not be found on the state's People First system or websites. During OE, employees are encouraged to schedule a meeting with an FBMC enrollment counselor online or by calling (866) 998-2915. You may also sign in to myUFL with your GatorLink login and password, then navigate to Main Menu > My Self Service > Benefits > UFSelect & GatorCare Benefits to enroll online through FBMC's Premier Enroll system, which will take you step by step through the process.
Once online, be certain to verify your demographic data. To facilitate the enrollment process, enter any eligible dependents or beneficiaries before leaving the demographic screen, otherwise you’ll have to return to this page and enter dependents if you later elect plans covering dependents. As you proceed through each plan, you must either elect or waive coverage to move to the next screen. On the last page, carefully review your elections then click the “save and submit” button to finalize your enrollment.
For new employees hired during the Open Enrollment period, you may sign up for the UFSelect plan, however coverage will not go into effect until 1/1/13. In the interim, you may enroll in the state/People First benefits (if eligible). After you enroll, a corresponding Open Enrollment cancellation must also be completed at the same time so that your state plans terminate on 12/31/12 and your new UFSelect plans begins on January 1.
Note: Certain coverages that you are currently enrolled in will be pre-populated into the FBMC’s Premier Enroll system such as:
- Disability coverage – You should see your current 30 or 90 day plan election and the current premium
- Term Life and AD&D coverage –Any employee, spouse and/or dependent coverage will be pre-populated in the system (amounts only). If enrolled, it is essential to enter dependent data on the first page of the demographic screen. If you are simply browsing through the UFSelect plans, have not entered your dependent data AND you choose to waive any pre-populated dependent coverages, once you click “save and submit” to finalize the enrollment, you will be cancelling any Term Life coverage previously held on you and/or, spouse/dependents.
GatorCare Health Plan
During this year’s Open Enrollment, the only employee groups eligible for GatorCare are UF faculty and staff currently enrolled in the Avmed domestic partner plan or those interested in enrolling for domestic partner coverage. To enroll, employees are encouraged to schedule a meeting with an FBMC enrollment counselor online or by calling (866) 998-2915. You may also sign in to myUFL with your GatorLink login and password, then navigate to Main Menu > My Self Service > Benefits > UFSelect & GatorCare Benefits to enroll online through FBMC's Premier Enroll system, which will take you step by step through the process. Refer to the UFSelect section above for more details.
In addition to enrolling, you must also meet the eligibility criteria for domestic partner coverage which may be found on the UFSelect website. After enrolling with an FBMC counselor or thru self service, you will be required to complete and send the Domestic Partner Affidavit (original notarized form with signatures), two qualifying documents and any birth certificates for dependent children covered under the plan. All documentation must be returned to the main Benefits office at PO Box 115007 by the end of Open Enrollment.
For new employees hired during the Open Enrollment period, you may sign up for the UF domestic partner health plan with GatorCare, however coverage will not go into effect until 1/1/13. In the interim, you may enroll in the state/People First benefits (domestic partner coverage not available) or the UF domestic partner Avmed plan (if eligible). After you enroll, a corresponding Open Enrollment cancellation must also be completed at the same time so that either your state health plan or UF Avmed plan terminates on 12/31/12 and your new GatorCare plan begins on January 1.
