Graduate Medical Education Task Force
The two-member Graduate Medical Education Taskforce developed a web-based system that tracks trainee work hours, evaluations and completion of procedures and diagnoses. Implementation of this system annually saves the Division of Nephrology about 1,500 hours of physician time and 750 hours of administrative staff time. The system has been copyrighted and could be sold to other universities for use in graduate medical education programs. For more information, please contact Mike Guske at (352) 846-2465.

John Mocko , $1,000

Distinguished Individual Awards

Student Response System for Instruction
John, Mocko, a Sr. Testing Laboratory Specialist, acquired, installed and operates a Hyper-Interactive Teaching Technology (HITT) student response system. This technology has enabled 6,500 students in physics lecture halls to respond to questions that help instructors adjust lectures according to how well students understand the material. The HITT system also enables instructors to quiz students an average of twice weekly and grade quizzes instantly, annually saving more than $100,000 worth of faculty time that would have been spent manually grading them. Mr. Mocko has made numerous software improvement suggestions to HITT computer programmers, almost all of which have been implemented. For more information, please contact John Mocko at (352) 392-0488 or email mocko@phys.ufl.edu or visit www.h-itt.com.

Health Science Center Construction
Auxiliary Team , $500

Notable Team, Work Unit and Partnership Awards

Joseph Danny Moore, Jim Brillhart, Mark Ferguson,
John S. Bohannon
The four-member Working Capital Construction Auxiliary Team revitalized small minor construction at the health science center, performing 295 projects that saved approximately $33,000 versus outside contracting or construction management. Eight people at an annual cash flow deficit of $75,000 previously performed similar work. For more information, please contact Jim Thompson at (352) 846-0119 or email jthomp@ufl.edu.

Preview Seats Initiative Team , $500

Notable Team, Work Unit and Partnership Awards

Earl Robbins, Mark Jacobsen, Jay Schnedl, Beckie Preston
A four-member Preview Seats Team in the Registrar's Office created a system to reserve 40,000 seats in 400 courses taken by freshman and transfer students. In 2004, this system computed how many seats would be needed for 49 releases spread over 27 orientation sessions. It randomly selected seats from sections of all 400 courses so that students attending the last session in August had just as good a chance to register for the courses they needed as students attending the first session in May. The system also remembers seats reserved so that in future years academic advisors can simply request a percentage increase or decrease in seats saved based on projected enrollment. For more information, please contact Albert Matheny at (352) 392-1521 ext. 215 or email matheny@polisci.ufl.edu.

Computing and Network Services Team, $500

Notable Team, Work Unit and Partnership Awards

Jack Schudel, Steve Ware, John "Jack" Bloom, Barry Brooks, Scott Crumpton, Mary "Cathy" Honeycutt, Christina "Tina" Moris
The seven-member Computing & Networking Services Team devised and implemented temporary reconfiguration of a mainframe system in order to handle a peak processing load of registration and schedule adjustments during the 2004 fall semester. The team's initiative avoided spending $400,000 on a hardware and software upgrade that could not be justified because of an impending conversion of registrar system to new hardware platforms. For more information, please contact Jack Schudel at (352) 392-2061 ext. 178 or email schudel@ufl.edu.
