Dennis Vince, $1,000

Maintenance Specialist Dennis Vince received a Distinguished Individual Award for saving the UF Chemical Engineering Department more than $100,000 on facilities and equipment used for teaching and research. Mr. Vince’s nominator wrote: “He possesses a dogged determination to save our department money at every conceivable opportunity. He protects the department better than most of us protect our homes. His resourcefulness in doing so is amazing.”
Bryan Lutz, $250
Bryan Lutz initiated an internship program for students in the Warrington College of Business that added 3,120 hours of support to the Information Technology Department at zero cost to the University of Florida Press. The press annually gains more than $40,000 worth of increased productivity and graduate students acquire experience they will use in their future careers.
Gerald Sellers, $250
Gerald Sellers recognized that much of the Health Science Center’s medical research stored in the cold storage rooms was at risk due to aging chiller units. These storage rooms sustain research conducted by 900 faculty members involved in $250 million of annual research. University maintenance staff were continually responding to high temperature alarms and it was only a matter of time before valuable and matchless research would be lost due to an equipment failure. Mr. Sellers acquired components and assembled 14 redundant chiller units to back up those already installed in addition to designing and manufacturing several portable units for the same purpose.
